What do you specialise in?
Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1989, Nikki has specialised in all areas of Private Client work including:
- Administration of Estates
- Trusts
- Estate Planning
- Wills
- Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Court of Protection and Deputy applications
Nikki has a particular interest in the law relating to elderly clients. She is a fully accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly providing her with additional skills to support older clients to make long term decisions about their finances and care plans. Nikki will also work alongside families to put plans into place which may include seeking funding from the local authority.
Nikki is personally appointed as trustee to administer some trusts and as an attorney for some clients where she deals with all their financial affairs including payment of bills, checking care home provision and dealing with their property. This may involve working with clients who have impaired capacity such as dementia and to assist with this Nikki is a Dementia Friend.
A Lifetime Lawyer
Nikki has also been an accredited member of an organisation called "Solicitors for the Elderly" (which has now become The Association of Lifetime Lawyers) for 16 years. The Lifetime Lawyers Association has a mission to make sure that when people are vulnerable they have access to a legal professional with the skills and experience to help. Members are legal professionals who are experts in advising a whole spectrum of people on key legal decisions though their lifetime with a particular specialism of supporting older people and those in vulnerable circumstances.
In addition to expert legal knowledge, our members undertake a rigorous external accreditation proving their understanding of the key issues that can affect vulnerable and older people. This includes things like dementia, Parkinson’s and other degenerative diseases, as well as problems with hearing, sight, and mobility.
Lifetime Lawyers also receive specialist training when it comes to the care they provide. They offer extra empathy and attention, including understanding the signs of neglect and abuse and knowing how to spot them. Lifetime Lawyers consider things like when and where they speak to clients, ensuring they’re able to provide people the tailored support they need that aligns with their individual circumstances.
